Install and update your software with winget

winget ships with Windows 11 and recent Windows 10 builds. It downloads software from official sources.

1. Check winget is installed

   Open Terminal and type:

   winget --version

   cmdCopy

   If it's missing, install App Installer from the Microsoft Store.

2. Search for a program

   winget search vlc

   cmdCopy

   Note the exact Id shown, for example VideoLAN.VLC.

1. Install several programs at once

   winget install --id VideoLAN.VLC -e
   winget install --id 7zip.7zip -e
   winget install --id Mozilla.Firefox -e

   cmdCopy

2. Update everything

   winget upgrade --all

   cmdCopy

   Run this once a month to keep your software current.
